A Little trip

I had to go on a little business trip this past week.

I needed to be at the airport on Thursday at 5am, off to Durban for the day, then to CapeTown that evening to spend Friday in our office there.

The idea was to see and assess the IT facilities that our company has in each of these locations.

I was so briefly in Durban that I didn’t get a chance to connect with any of my mates there but made a point of meeting some friends n CapeTown and having dinner with my brother on Friday night.

I had dinner with an old friend and her flatmate on Thursday night. What an inspiration they are. They are totally sold out for God, and their joy just shines out for everyone to see.

I had dinner with my brother before flying back on Friday, and it was great to catch up briefly.

It was a whirlwind trip though, and I am still tired from it.

Well the pictures speak for themselves. Argh! What a pain. Just wasn’t paying careful attention at a traffic light. It went green, and we all got going, then suddenly everyone stopped more quickly than I did.

I even had to fill in 2 forms the next day. The horror.

I hate forms. They always ask for stuff people already know. That really bugs me.

So I’ll probably have to spend 2 weeks with a Hyundai Getz. Not a bad little car. The 1.4 is a bit sluggish but the car feels like a big car with exceptional build quality.

...but I’ll be looking forward to another reunion with my baby. Sigh.

Religion vs Redemption

Last night I heard a message that included some points I really like. (Thanks Ross Lester)

The main point is that Jesus came for Redemption not to create a Religion. In fact he stands for redemption and not religion.

Religion and Redemption have some fundamentally different messages that can change how we approach life:

Religion: If I obey God, He will love me
Redemption: God loves me, and the Cross proves it.

Religion: There are Good people and Bad people
Redemption: There are repentant people and unrepentant people

Religion: It is all about morality
Redemption: It is all about Jesus

Religion: Happiness is a result of hard work
Redemption: Jesus brings Joy regardless of your circumstances.

To really understand these concepts makes life a completely different prospect. It is no longer about what I must do, but it is about my attitude and response to God. What I do flows from that.

In one sense there is freedom not to have to DO certain things.

In another sense there is more responsibility because simply DOING things isn’t enough - it is necessary to have the right motivation, which cannot be faked.

Reunion

Getting my car back today! While it was in for a suspension rattle the Engine management system blew. So it was a week to wait for parts, and I should get it back today.

Summer is returning, so I missed the convertible so much over the weekend. Looking forward to it tonight.

Update: It is so much tighter, with the replaces shock mounts, and the replaced Engine Management System and Airflow meter have resulted in slightly crisper performance delivery. Can’t wait to take it out tonight!
